RESUMO

Background: Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common sexual dysfunction in men who are unable to consistently obtain and maintain sufficient penile erection to accomplish a satisfactory sexual life. ED is currently considered to be a predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD), but few studies have observed the association between ED and clinical features of coronary heart disease (CHD). An investigation of the association between ED and clinical characteristics of CHD was carried out using a cross-sectional study design. Methods: This cross-sectional single-center study was conducted in the Department of Cardiology and included 248 patients. Associations between patients' general information, underlying disease information, coronary heart disease information, and ED severity were statistically and analytically analyzed using SPSS 26.0 software. Patients with comparable clinical characteristics were grouped together using K-means clustering. Finally, ordered logistic regression analysis was performed for general and underlying disease information. Results: In the comparison of general data, age, education, and weekly exercise were associated with the distribution of ED severity. In the comparison of underlying disease information, the number of underlying diseases, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, anxiety state, and depressive state were associated with the distribution of ED severity. In the comparison of CHD information, the degree of ED severity was associated with CHD subtypes, lesion sites, number of stenoses, degree of stenosis, and interventional interventions. The time from ED to CHD onset was associated with the subtypes of CHD and the number of stenoses. We clustered the main characteristics of low-risk and high-risk patients and ordered logistic regression analysis found that BMI, smoking, alcoholism, number of underlying diseases, diabetes, anxiety state, and depression state were all risk factors for CHD severity (P < 0.05); the higher the value of the above factors, the more severe the degree of CHD. Age was a protective factor for CHD severity; the younger the patient, the lower the likelihood of myocardial infarction. Conclusion: ED severity and the time from ED to CHD onset may be predictive of coronary heart disease severity. Reducing smoking and alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy body weight, and regular physical activity are important in preventing CVD in ED patients.

RESUMO

Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) are the most common testicular malignancies. KLRB1 is considered to influence the development and progression of a number of cancers. However, it is unclear how the KLRB1 gene functions in TGCT. First, it was determined the expression level of KLRB1 in TGCT using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) (The Cancer Genome Atlas) dataset and GTEx (Genotype-Tissue Expression) dataset. The clinical significance and biological functions of KLRB1 were explored using the TCGA dataset, and we analyzed the correlation of the KLRB1 gene with tumor immunity and infiltrating immune cells using gene set variation analysis and the TIMER database. We found that the expression level of KLRB1 was upregulated in TGCT malignant tissues with the corresponding normal tissues as controls, and KLRB1 expression correlated with clinicopathologic features of TGCT. Functional enrichment analysis suggested that KLRB1 might be involved in immune response and inflammatory response. KLRB1 was highly positively correlated with natural killer cell activation in immune response and positively correlated with tumor-infiltrating immune cells. This study demonstrated for the first time the role of KLRB1 in TGCT, which may serve as a new biomarker associated with immune infiltration and provide a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of TGCT.

RESUMO

HSA (human serum albumin), a most abundant protein in blood serum, plays a key role in maintaining human health. Abnormal HSA level is correlated with many diseases, and thus has been used as an essential biomarker for therapeutic monitoring and biomedical diagnosis. Development of small-molecule fluorescent probes allowing the selective and sensitive recognition of HSA in in vitro and in vivo is of fundamental importance in basic biological research as well as medical diagnosis. Herein, we reported a series of new synthesized fluorescent dyes containing D-π-A constitution, which exhibited different optical properties in solution and solid state. Among them, dye M-H-SO3 with a hydrophilic sulfonate group at electron-acceptor part displayed selectivity for discrimination of HSA from BSA and other enzymes. Upon binding of dye M-H-SO3 with HSA, a significant fluorescence enhancement with a turn-on ratio about 96-fold was triggered. The detection limit was estimated to be âˆ¼ 40 nM. Studies on the interaction mechanism revealed that dye M-H-SO3 could bind to site III of HSA with a 1:1 binding stoichiometry. Furthermore, dye M-H-SO3 has been applied to determine HSA in real urine samples with good recoveries, which provided a useful method for HSA analysis in biological fluids.

RESUMO

In structural health monitoring (SHM), most current methods and techniques are based on the assumption of linear models and linear damage. However, the damage in real engineering structures is more characterized by nonlinear behavior, including the appearance of cracks and the loosening of bolts. To solve the structural nonlinear damage diagnosis problem more effectively, this study combines the autoregressive (AR) model and amplitude-aware permutation entropy (AAPE) to propose a data-driven damage detection method. First, an AR model is built for the acceleration data from each structure sensor in the baseline state, including determining the model order using a modified iterative method based on the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and calculating the model coefficients. Subsequently, in the testing phase, the residuals of the AR model are extracted as damage-sensitive features (DSFs), and the AAPE is calculated as a damage classifier to diagnose the nonlinear damage. Numerical simulation of a six-story building model and experimental data from a three-story frame structure at the Los Alamos Laboratory are utilized to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. In addition, to demonstrate the advantages of the present method, we analyzed AAPE in comparison with other advanced univariate damage classifiers. The numerical and experimental results demonstrate the proposed method's advantages in detecting and localizing minor damage. Moreover, this method is applicable to distributed sensor monitoring systems.

RESUMO

PtTe2 , a member of the noble metal dichalcogenides (NMDs), has aroused great interest in exploring its behavior in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to the unique type-II topological semimetallic nature. In this work, a simple template-free hydrothermal method to obtain the phosphorus-doped (P-doped) PtTe2 nanocages with abundant amorphous and crystalline interface (A/C-P-PtTe2 ) is developed. Revealed by density functional theory calculations, the atomic Te vacancies can spontaneously form on the basal planes of PtTe2 by the P doping, which results in the unsaturated Pt atoms exposed as the active sites in the amorphous layer for HER. Owing to the defective structure, the A/C-P-PtTe2 catalysts have the fast Tafel step determined kinetics in HER, which contributes to an ultralow overpotential (η = 28 mV at 10 mA cm-2 ) and a small Tafel slope of 37 mV dec-1 . More importantly, benefiting from the inner stable crystalline P-PtTe2 nanosheets, limited decay of the performance is observed after chronopotentiometry test. This work reveals the important role of the inherent relationship between structure and activity in PtTe2 for HER, which may bring another enlightenment for the design of efficient catalysts based on NMDs in the near future.

RESUMO

Li/CFx battery is one of the most promising lithium primary batteries (LPBs) which yields the highest energy density but with poor rate capability. This Achilles'' heel hinders the large-scale applications of Li/CFx batteries. This work first reports a facile chemical modification method of CFx with δ-MnO2 . Having benefited from the chemical bonding, the electrochemical performance at high-rate discharge is remarkably enhanced without compromising the specific capacity. The coin cells exhibit an energy density of 1.94 × 103  Wh kg-1 at 0.2 C, which is approaching the theoretical energy density of commercial fluorinated graphite (2.07 × 103  Wh kg-1 ). A power density of 5.49 × 104  W kg-1 at 40 C associated with an energy density of 4.39 × 102  Wh kg-1 , which is among the highest value of Li/CFx batteries, are obtained. Besides, the punch batteries achieve an ultrahigh power density of 4.39 × 104  W kg-1 with an energy density of 7.60 × 102  Wh kg-1 at 30 C. The intrinsic reasons for this outstanding electrochemical performance, which are known as the fast Li+ diffusion kinetics guided by thin δ-MnO2 flakes and the low formation energy barrier caused by chemical bonding, are explored by the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) and theoretical calculations.

RESUMO

Ferroptosis plays a critical role in ischemic stroke, and anti-ferroptosis strategies were regarded as potentially effective measures. Based on ferroptosis-related mechanisms, this study aims to design and prepare anti-ferroptosis exosomes from adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSC-Exo) for treating ischemic brain injury via intranasal (IN) administration. According to the bioinformatic analysis, CHAC1 was a key gene in the progress of ferroptosis in ischemic stroke. miR-760-3p can inhibit the expression of CHAC1 and may be abundant in ADSC-Exo. Therefore, ADSC-Exo were successfully isolated and the immunofluorescence showed that they can be efficiently delivered to the brain via IN administration. Additionally, IN administration of ADSC-Exo can effectively improve the neurobehavior function of mice after I/R, and improve the ferroptosis-related outcomes. As the immunofluorescence showed the co-localization of NeuN with CHAC1 obviously, we further evaluated the systematic effect of ADSC-Exo in an oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) mouse neuroblastoma cell line N2a model. The results showed that miR-760-3p in ADSC-Exo contributed to their function in inhibiting ferroptosis by targeting CHAC1 in neurons. Collectively, the present study successfully designed and prepared anti-CHAC1 ADSC-Exo and suggested a promising exosome-based strategy for anti-ferroptosis therapy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The dilemma of male sexual dysfunction has been the focus of the whole society. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the common sexual dysfunctions, and traditional Chinese medicine therapy has shown potential benefits in the treatment of ED. Comprehensive therapy of traditional Chinese medicine (CTTCM) is a comprehensive application of Chinese medicine therapy for auxiliary intervention. Through preliminary clinical observations, we found that CTTCM is simple, safe, and has good efficacy; however, there is a lack of rigorous clinical trials to support its application. Therefore, we designed a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CTTCM for patients with ED of damp-heat stasis type, and to provide evidence for the clinical application of CTTCM and the construction of a traditional Chinese medicine andrology rehabilitation system. METHODS: In this randomized controlled study, 108 eligible patients were assigned 1:1 to the CTTCM group or the tadalafil group. The treatment period was 8 weeks and the follow-up period was 8 weeks. The primary outcome will be the International Erectile Function Score and traditional Chinese medicine Syndrome Score. Secondary outcomes will include the Erection Quality Score, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Scale. Safety results will include electrocardiogram, blood tests (including blood, liver and kidney function), urine and stool. International Erectile Function Score-5, traditional Chinese medicine Syndrome Score, Erectile Quality Score, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, 7-item Generalized Anxiety Scale and all Safety outcomes will be conducted at baseline, 2th, 4th, 6th, and 8th week. Follow-up results will be assessed at 8th week after 8 weeks' treatment. DISCUSSION: This study will provide preliminary evidence for the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine integrated therapy in the treatment of damp-heat stasis ED. In addition, it also provides a basis for the clinical application of Chinese medicine comprehensive therapy and the construction of Chinese medicine andrology rehabilitation system. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Environmental pollution and male infertility have become global public health problems. The presence of microplastics (MPs) has been detected in the human body, and it has also been demonstrated that MPs can cause damage to the reproductive system. Wuwei Fuzheng Yijing Decoction (WWFZYJ) is effective in treating male infertility. Therefore, we designed a clinical randomized controlled trial to observe the effect of WWFZYJ on the content of MPs and semen quality in male infertility patients, and to evaluate its security. METHODS: In this randomized controlled study, 66 eligible patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to a treatment group (WWFZYJ Decoction) and a control group (Coenzyme Q10 tablets combined with vitamin E soft capsules) for 8 weeks. The content of MPs in semen, sperm DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI), and semen analysis (including sperm density, sperm count, forward motile sperm, sperm motility, etc) will be used as primary indicators, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome scores will be used as secondary indicators. Vital signs (such as respiration, heart rate, body temperature, blood pressure, electrocardiogram, etc), blood routine, urine routine, stool routine, liver function, and renal function will be used as safety indicators. The primary and secondary indicators will be performed at 0th and 8th week, and the safety indicators will be performed at 0th, 4th, and 8th week. DISCUSSION: This study will provide evidence for the efficacy and safety of WWFZYJ in treating male infertility and reducing the content of MPs in semen, and further explore the effects of MPs on male fertility.

RESUMO

Ni-rich LiNi0.8 Co0.15 Al0.05 O2 (NCA) material attracts extensive attention due to its high discharge specific capacity, but its distinct drawbacks of rapid capacity decline and poor cycle performance at elevated temperatures and high voltage during charge/discharge cycling restricts its widespread application. To solve these problems, a multifunctional coating layer composed of a lithium-ion-conductive lithium polyacrylate (LiPAA) inner layer and a cross-linked polymer outer layer from certain organic substances of silane-coupling agent (KH550) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) is successfully designed on the surface of NCA materials, which is favorable for eliminating residual lithium and improving lithium-ion conductivity, surface stability, and hydrophobicity of NCA materials. In addition, the amount of the coating material is also investigated. A series of characterization methods such as XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are used to analyze the morphologies and structures for materials of pristine and modified NCA. It is revealed that the co-coating layer plays a vital part in reducing the surface residual alkalis and improving the stability of NCA particles; as a result, the modified NCA exhibits a greatly improved rate capability, cycle performance, and low polarization impedance.

RESUMO

Overlithiated oxide cathode materials show high capacity but poor cycle stability and voltage attenuation. In this work, a concentration difference driven molten salt ion exchange strategy is used to replace a small quantity of lithium ions by sodium ions. With the entry of sodium ions, the interplanar spacing is increased and the structure is stabilized. The electrochemical properties of materials have been improved obviously. The powder X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy are used to detect the entry of sodium ions and structural changes. The modified materials display high discharge specific capacity, excellent cycling performance, and reduced voltage attenuation.

RESUMO

Control systems with long distance sensor and actuator wiring have the problem of high system cost and increased sensor noise. Wireless sensor network (WSN)-based control systems are an alternative solution involving lower setup and maintenance costs and reduced sensor noise. However, WSN-based control systems also encounter problems such as possible data loss, irregular sampling periods (due to the uncertainty of the wireless channel), and the possibility of sensor breakdown (due to the increased complexity of the overall control system). In this paper, a wireless microcontroller-based control system is designed and implemented to wirelessly perform vibration control. The wireless microcontroller-based system is quite different from regular control systems due to its limited speed and computational power. Hardware, software, and control algorithm design are described in detail to demonstrate this prototype. Model and system state compensation is used in the wireless control system to solve the problems of data loss and sensor breakdown. A positive position feedback controller is used as the control law for the task of active vibration suppression. Both wired and wireless controllers are implemented. The results show that the WSN-based control system can be successfully used to suppress the vibration and produces resilient results in the presence of sensor failure.
